Plain-English definitions for the terms you will encounter most across the Molecule Library and Research sections.
Wellness and peptide research comes with a lot of specialized language. This glossary collects the terms we use most often, defined simply, so nothing here reads as jargon.
- Peptide
- A short chain of amino acids that acts as a signal in the body.
- Protein
- A larger molecule built from a long chain of amino acids.
- Agonist
- A compound that binds to a receptor and activates it, triggering a biological response.
- Receptor
- A protein on or in a cell that receives chemical signals, such as those from hormones or peptides.
- Investigational
- Still being studied in clinical trials and not yet approved for general medical use.
- Compounded
- Prepared by a pharmacy for an individual case rather than mass-manufactured; not FDA-verified for safety or effectiveness.
- FDA-approved
- Reviewed and authorized by the FDA for a specific, verified medical use.
- Coenzyme
- A small molecule that helps enzymes carry out chemical reactions in the body, such as NAD+.
